“ Crazy Monkey Defense is my contribution to the martial art world, it is centered on the belief that martial arts training should first and foremost be about creating champions in life and career and secondly about learning how to defend oneself.” -Rodney King
If you are like many
of the new clients coming into my studio, I am sure you have been
looking around on the internet to see what is out there in so far as
martial art instruction.
I am not sure if you have noticed as I have, but there seems to be an
awful lot of unhealthy rhetoric and advertising going on in many of
these martial art websites. Especially those purporting to be teaching
Mixed Martial Arts.
I am astounded that in this day an age and with the level of violence
so prevalent in our society that so many martial art school owners
rather than seeking to use their craft to do good and present a
positive approach to learning martial arts, have plugged into peoples
paranoia and fear. Not too mention making a profit out of it.
I
believe a website is not only a representation of the material been
taught at a specfic martial art school, but is equally a very clear
representation of the person doing the teaching. When you go to a martial art site and you see things such as 'learn street fighting', cage fighting, no rules fighting or photos of the instructor pepper spraying someone in the face- red flags should instantly be going up in your head.
Why would you want someone to teach you how to become a ‘street fighter’ and why would anyone want to sit around
talking at a business luncheon about their ‘cage fighting’ training?
The most important question I believe is what does that really say
about the person who thinks it is okay to invovle himself or herself in
such activities? As a parent I am appalled how any parent can let their
child or teenager go and train at these places!
It’s clear that many
of these martial art instructors are confused, not only on what the
language they use on their websites portrays to the world, but more so
I doubt it is a coincidence that they advertise what they do in this
way. The worrying part is people train with these individuals. Is it
really worrying? Or merely like minded attraction?
Regardless you simply wont find this at our studio. If you are looking for martial arts training that is centered on-
PLAY, FUN and EXUBERANCE instead of the need to win.
COOPERATION and building exciting relationships with people instead of competing.
FREEDOM TO MAKE MISTAKES, LEARN & GROW FROM IT, instead of been stressed out and dominated by other people on the mat.
